Her dads seemed over to the moon that the boys both had names and they were Jewish. The family wasn’t always the most orthodox of Jews but their religion and heritage was still important and she understood that. It was the driving force to naming the boys and she was happy her parents appreciated it. “Finn’s right,” she said with a nod. “We want them both to know what both are like; what it means to be Christian and what it means to be Jewish. Then, when they’re older, they can make their own choice of what they want to follow.” Of course she’d love it if they continued to honor both but she’d understand if they ever chose Christianity over Judaism. “Now that you two are here, all we’re missing are your parents, babe. Think they’ll get here soon?”
Finn nods and looks at her dads knowing they would be happy as long as their kids did grow up with a Jewish heritage. Finn then agrees to what Rachel said and nods looking at her. “Yeah I mean we won’t judge them on whatever they pick and we will respect it of course. I just want my boys to be happy and have the best love we can give them” he says looking at her over swollen tummy. Soon he checks his watch and then bites his lip nervously. “Yeah they should be here soon I mean they did have a bit of a away to travel but knowing Nurt they’ll be here really soon. “How are the contractions?” He says looking at her softly.
Before she could answer, her dads practically busted the door open, both men carrying various items and each with their own sets of questions. “One at a time,” she told them, not at all appreciating the loudness that had pierced her previously silent room. Despite the pain, she greeted both her fathers, glad that they were here, even if they hadn’t missed much. “Not enough,” she answered when her dad asked her about her dilation. “I just got an epidural.” She looked at the teddies and balloons and smiled. “I know that Caleb and Daniel are going to love them.” It took both Berry men a minute to understand what she had sad and then they both squealed with excitement. “Are those the boys’ names?" They asked, Hiram setting down the stuffed animals and putting the balloons out of the way. Rachel nodded before looking over at Finn. “They are. Caleb still needs a middle name, but we have Daniel’s; Daniel Asher Hudson.”
Finn looks at her dads and then sits down as he watched her with her dads and he nods. Her dads looked at her sadly and both held her hand. “Well that will help the pain sweetie….hopefully they will be here soon…I can’t wait to see my grandsons” LeRoy says getting excited as Finn nodded when they asked where they the baby names. “Yep, they sure are!” he says, smiling at Rachel happily before her dads start to tear up. “They are Jewish names… Rachel honey, you have no idea how much that means to us you are raising your kids with the jewish faith!” Hiram says kissing her cheek while Finn nods. “Well I we are going to raise them both Christian and Jewish….give them both the best of our religions..” he says happily and held her hand as her dads nod understandingly.
Glad that baby number two now had his first name (presumably), she was excited to think of his middle name. But before they could do that, she had to get her epidural, something she had been against. The pain, however, proved to be too much and she needed it, especially if her labor lasted hours longer. Holding onto Finn’s hands, she sat up and followed each and every bit of instruction the doctor gave to her. She sat up straighter, she leaned forward as best she could, she grabbed her husband’s hands and shut her eyes tight. She didn’t want to think about the needle that was going to be be puncturing her spine, didn’t want to think of anything except her boys. But she couldn’t stop the wince once she felt that first pinch and she let out a whine as she felt it enter her body. She squeezed Finn’s hands until the doctor said he was done, comments about it being ‘easy’ leaving his lips. “Yeah. Easy,” she mumbled back as she was helped into bed. The medicine didn’t kick in and she was still in pain, now with a sore back. Great.
Finn watched Rachel get the needle in her spine and he tried to look away but he held her hand the whole time. He really was so proud as she was going through a lot to have their boys. Once it was done he glared at the doctor when he said it was easy. Did he not just see his wife in pain? He then leans over and kissed her cheek. “Well done babe hopefully it kicks in soon and you wont be in pain as much, is there anything I can do for you?” he asks and kissed her cheek before her dads rush through the door. They were holding two teddy bears and some balloons that had written congrats its a boy! He then smiled at them and they hugged him telling him to stay calm and everything will be okay before they rushed over to their daughter. “Sweetie we are so proud of you, how far dilated are you?" LeRoy says as he leans over and kisses her cheek. "We would have been quicker but your dad insisted about getting some teddy bears and balloons” Hiram rolls his eyes looking at his partner who shrugs. “I wanted us to not come empty handed for our grandsons” LeRoy says kissing Rachel’s head.
She was pleased when he said he liked the first name. It felt good to know that at least one of their sons now had a name. Now there was the task of thinking of the next one. Just when she was going to share the second name she had taken a liking to, Finn had gone and blurted it out and for a moment, she just looked at him. Sometimes, they did that; found something that the other had already found and loved, or said something similar. And it was in those moments she realized how perfect for each other they were. Smiling, she said, “I can’t tell you because you just said it. Caleb was the name.” Before she could say anything else, there was a knock at the door and a doctor she hadn’t met yet came in, introducing himself as the anesthesiologist. “Here goes,” she told Finn, an unsure look on her face. “Help me sit up, baby.”
He smiled widely as they found the first name before he tried to study her face on the next name he mentioned. He could see her smile softly at him and that was a good sign. He then smiles brightly when she said that was the name she picked too, and he laughs looking at her happily. “Wow, really? What are the odds, we have to call him Caleb now, ” he laughs before he leans in and kisses her cheek before he saw the doctor come in and it was the anesthesiologist and he nodded quickly. “You will be fine baby” he says encouraging her and then helped her sit up slowly and held her hand the whole time as he knew what was coming now and it wasn’t going to be pretty seeing his wife get a needle he didn’t like them one bit/
It seemed that Finn had given a lot of thought to names and she actually did like some of the names he suggested. “Asher’s a nice name,” she said with a nod, “but I think I like it more for a middle name.” It just didn’t seem strong enough to stand on its own like Daniel or Liam or Hunter did. When he asked to hear her other choice, she gave a shrug. “I don’t know. It isn’t like yours, or strong like Daniel. It’s … I don’t know.” She thought a minute, thinking of different combinations. “What do you think of the name Daniel Asher. It sounds nice, doesn’t it? Daniel Asher Hudson.” Saying it loud, she found herself liking it. She just needed him to like it as well.
Finn looks at her and smiled when she at least liked one, he was scared she wouldn’t like any because he thought he would fail at this. “Yeah a Middle name sounds good. I like it! Daniel Asher Hudson…it’s a perfect fit” he says kissing her cheek happy with her idea. He then raises and eye brow and was confused why she wouldn’t say the second name. “Baby please tell me..I would love to know what it is..I did find this name to I like I saw it on a website. I like the name Caleb” he says nervously thinking maybe she wouldn’t like it. “I know its not as strong as Daniel but its different and something original which you wanted right?” he says playing with her hand.
Hearing that he had picked out Jewish names made her so happy. Finn really did understand just how important it was to her to keep that part of her faith intact with their sons’ names. Her name was of Hebrew origin and she wanted her sons, and any more children they had down the line, to share that. While she wanted to hear what he had come up with, she was too anxious to share, so she went first. “Well, I was looking through the books and I think I fell in love with the name Daniel. It even has a nice translation; it means ‘God is my judge’.” The two weren’t exactly the most religious of folks but she did believe in a higher power and she thought one of their sons have the name would be good. The other name she had in mind, Caleb, also had a Hebrew translation, though it was much simpler (dog) and she thought she’d wait to hear what he had thought of. “What about you? What are the names you liked?”
Cory smiled when she said she was looking through the books and she thought of some names and he smiles as he liked that name. “Yeah Daniel is a really awesome Name I saw that one too and I liked it” he says as he loved the Jewish translation to it too, it sounded very special and a really nice name for their son. “Well I like the names Ben, Asher which is really cool and I like the name Liam which isn’t Jewish as well as Hunter, Oliver is nice too” he says as he looks at her softly thinking she didn’t like them. “We could call him Olly for short” he says as he shrugs. “You said you had two what is the other one babe?” he says as he really wanted to know what she had as he thought his weren’t good enough. He wanted their kid’s names to be perfect.
She frowned when he said that the epidural wouldn’t take away the pain completely. Of course she knew that, but a woman could hope, right? While they waited for the doctor to come back, she instead focused on her husband in hopes that talking could distract her from the pain. Like talking about their babies. “I know,” she said excitedly. “It’s crazy to believe, right? Almost nine months and now they’re finally going to be here.” It had been a crazy journey but right now, all she wanted was to have her three boys here with her. One in each arm with Finn sitting right next to them. When he mentioned names, she giggled. Most parents thought of these things months in advance but leave it to them to leave it to the last minute. “I actually have names picked out,” she admitted. “I’ve thought about them for awhile. Do you want to hear?”
Cory smiles widely and he looks at her stomach. “They are going to come any minute now its really weird but awesome too…I am so excited, two baby boys!” he says grinning. He then looks at her knowing that talking about the babies would help the pain she was in. He then smiled widely when she said she had some names picked out and he then grins as he held her hand lovingly. “Yeah I would love to hear, I have a few myself too” he says as he couldn’t wait to hear what names she picked, they would more likely be better than his, he just wanted their kids to have beautiful names. “I even have a Jewish name, ” he says as he knew Rachel wanted their boys to have traditional Jewish names and he totally agreed. “You know your dads are going to be happy we are going to pick a Jewish name!” he grins.
With Finn leaving the final decision in her hands, she felt even more pressure (that wasn’t related to her labor) to make the right choice. There was the little voice in the back of her head that was trying to goad her into one situation or another, reminding her of the things that could go wrong either way. It was safe to say that Rachel was stuck. But when another contraction hit, one of the worst yet, she knew what she had to decide. “Epidural,” she finally said. If her sons came into the world a little groggy, it was okay when the pain she was experiencing would be lessened some. With her word, the doctor nodded and said that he was off to call the anesthetist who’d come in to give her the injection. She looked over at Finn and smiled weakly. “I hope it works,” she said. “These contractions hurt and it’s going to feel amazing to not feel.”
Finn watched her as he could see she was thinking about whether to get it or not to get it. He then held her hand softly when she said she wanted one and he nods as he kisses her head. “Good choice, baby, I meant I don’t want you in a lot pain.. And our babies will be fine.” he says, rubbing her hand and smiles at her gently before he bit his lip. “Me too, but you know its not gonna get rid of all the pain… there still may be a little” he says as he had been reading up about this in the pregnancy books. He then just sat there with her and he smiled. “Can you believe hopefully in a few hours we will be parents finally, ” he says, looking at her with a glimmer in his eyes as he was beyond excited for them to have their sons and he couldn’t wait for them to enter the world. “We will need to think of names too soon, ” he grins.
As much as she wanted him to be the one to tell her dads where she was at, she nodded when he said he didn’t want to leave her. Really, who was she to argue with that? Especially when another contraction hit and she hissed in pain. “If they get lost, it’s your fault,” she said with a small laugh. It was a joke, but she had a feeling her daddy wouldn’t see it as such if they really did manage to get lost in the hospital. When he asked about her contractions, she shook her head, unsure. “I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to either. I just know that I’m in a lot of pain and these babies need to come out now.” She sighed as she fidgeted on the bed, unable to find a comfortable spot anywhere. When the doctor came in, she took a moment to think about his question. A part of her wanted to do this without medicine, but there was another part that was screaming at her to take anything that would lessen what she was feeling. Finally, she looked over at Finn. “What do you think. I know … I know you’re not feeling it or anything but do you think I should do it? Have the babies come in the world under medication?” Whatever she got, the babies would and that meant they’d have whatever the epidural medicine was. “Should I tough it out so things can be natural?”
"Oh okay I will take responsibility on that" he says with a smile laugh too as he was happy to see she was still laughing even though he knew it was really difficult for her right now. He couldn’t even imagine the pains hew as in now. He then looks at her a little confused as he didn’t know when the babies would be coming but he knew the doctor asking her the question meant they were coming fairly soon enough and he smiles as he just wanted to see them. He then looks at her nervously. He really didn’t know what to say. "Baby all I can say is that your having twins…which means your going to be giving birth twice…so that twice the pain…I think you should do it. A lot of mothers have epidurals and the babies turn out fine. My mom did and look at me" he smiles nervously not knowing if that was helping or not. "But its up to you the final decision…it is your body and your doing this….your bringing them into the world and I am so proud of you" he says softly as he thought what shew as doing was beautiful. He then continued to hold her hand looking at her as the doctor waited for her decision.
Despite reading all the books and going to all the classes, nothing really could have prepared her for what she was going through right now. The contractions hurt and she had no idea if their boys were adjusting themselves for birth and all she wanted right now was to not feel the pain and for her sons to be in her arms. But to have her sons she’d have to go through pain and it was all just a really cruel cycle. When he said he was going to call his mom, she nodded and closed her eyes, a futile attempt to convince her body to relax. After about thirty seconds, she was hit with another contractions and she clutched the railings of her bed in the absence of her husband. By the time he came back into the room, the contraction had passed and she nodded to his news. “Good. I’m glad she’s excited.” Honestly, she couldn’t really think of a good reason why his mother wouldn’t be excited. Both of their parents were happy for them and ready to be grandparents and it made her wonder where her dads were. “Finn, why don’t you go to the front desk and tell them about my dads. You know how excited Daddy can get and maybe you should warn them. And to direct them to this room so they don’t disrupt anyone else or anything.”
He smiles at Rachel softly and kisses her head gently. “Your doing so well, Im so proud of you already” he says knowing what she was doing was amazing and beautiful. He then bites his lip smiling. “Yeah me too” he then looks at her and held her hand before he bites his lip when she suggests that. “Em…Babe I don’t want to leave you…I want to be here by your side, im sure the desk people will be able to direct your dads here, I mean they are used to people being excited and stuff” he was a little worried him saying no to her suggestion that she would snap at him as she was in labor and he knew that women get very angry. He then sat down beside her and held her hand. “How far are your contractions now? Are you fully dilated?” he says as he has been reading up on the baby books and he was proud of himself, anything for his boys and for Rachel of course so he could help her. Soon the doctor came in and looked at Rachel. “Now Mrs Hudson do you want an epidural?”
