With Finn leaving the final decision in her hands, she felt even more pressure (that wasn’t related to her labor) to make the right choice. There was the little voice in the back of her head that was trying to goad her into one situation or another, reminding her of the things that could go wrong either way. It was safe to say that Rachel was stuck. But when another contraction hit, one of the worst yet, she knew what she had to decide. “Epidural,” she finally said. If her sons came into the world a little groggy, it was okay when the pain she was experiencing would be lessened some. With her word, the doctor nodded and said that he was off to call the anesthetist who’d come in to give her the injection. She looked over at Finn and smiled weakly. “I hope it works,” she said. “These contractions hurt and it’s going to feel amazing to not feel.”
Finn watched her as he could see she was thinking about whether to get it or not to get it. He then held her hand softly when she said she wanted one and he nods as he kisses her head. “Good choice, baby, I meant I don’t want you in a lot pain.. And our babies will be fine.” he says, rubbing her hand and smiles at her gently before he bit his lip. “Me too, but you know its not gonna get rid of all the pain… there still may be a little” he says as he had been reading up about this in the pregnancy books. He then just sat there with her and he smiled. “Can you believe hopefully in a few hours we will be parents finally, ” he says, looking at her with a glimmer in his eyes as he was beyond excited for them to have their sons and he couldn’t wait for them to enter the world. “We will need to think of names too soon, ” he grins.
As much as she wanted him to be the one to tell her dads where she was at, she nodded when he said he didn’t want to leave her. Really, who was she to argue with that? Especially when another contraction hit and she hissed in pain. “If they get lost, it’s your fault,” she said with a small laugh. It was a joke, but she had a feeling her daddy wouldn’t see it as such if they really did manage to get lost in the hospital. When he asked about her contractions, she shook her head, unsure. “I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to either. I just know that I’m in a lot of pain and these babies need to come out now.” She sighed as she fidgeted on the bed, unable to find a comfortable spot anywhere. When the doctor came in, she took a moment to think about his question. A part of her wanted to do this without medicine, but there was another part that was screaming at her to take anything that would lessen what she was feeling. Finally, she looked over at Finn. “What do you think. I know … I know you’re not feeling it or anything but do you think I should do it? Have the babies come in the world under medication?” Whatever she got, the babies would and that meant they’d have whatever the epidural medicine was. “Should I tough it out so things can be natural?”
"Oh okay I will take responsibility on that" he says with a smile laugh too as he was happy to see she was still laughing even though he knew it was really difficult for her right now. He couldn’t even imagine the pains hew as in now. He then looks at her a little confused as he didn’t know when the babies would be coming but he knew the doctor asking her the question meant they were coming fairly soon enough and he smiles as he just wanted to see them. He then looks at her nervously. He really didn’t know what to say. "Baby all I can say is that your having twins…which means your going to be giving birth twice…so that twice the pain…I think you should do it. A lot of mothers have epidurals and the babies turn out fine. My mom did and look at me" he smiles nervously not knowing if that was helping or not. "But its up to you the final decision…it is your body and your doing this….your bringing them into the world and I am so proud of you" he says softly as he thought what shew as doing was beautiful. He then continued to hold her hand looking at her as the doctor waited for her decision.
Despite reading all the books and going to all the classes, nothing really could have prepared her for what she was going through right now. The contractions hurt and she had no idea if their boys were adjusting themselves for birth and all she wanted right now was to not feel the pain and for her sons to be in her arms. But to have her sons she’d have to go through pain and it was all just a really cruel cycle. When he said he was going to call his mom, she nodded and closed her eyes, a futile attempt to convince her body to relax. After about thirty seconds, she was hit with another contractions and she clutched the railings of her bed in the absence of her husband. By the time he came back into the room, the contraction had passed and she nodded to his news. “Good. I’m glad she’s excited.” Honestly, she couldn’t really think of a good reason why his mother wouldn’t be excited. Both of their parents were happy for them and ready to be grandparents and it made her wonder where her dads were. “Finn, why don’t you go to the front desk and tell them about my dads. You know how excited Daddy can get and maybe you should warn them. And to direct them to this room so they don’t disrupt anyone else or anything.”
He smiles at Rachel softly and kisses her head gently. “Your doing so well, Im so proud of you already” he says knowing what she was doing was amazing and beautiful. He then bites his lip smiling. “Yeah me too” he then looks at her and held her hand before he bites his lip when she suggests that. “Em…Babe I don’t want to leave you…I want to be here by your side, im sure the desk people will be able to direct your dads here, I mean they are used to people being excited and stuff” he was a little worried him saying no to her suggestion that she would snap at him as she was in labor and he knew that women get very angry. He then sat down beside her and held her hand. “How far are your contractions now? Are you fully dilated?” he says as he has been reading up on the baby books and he was proud of himself, anything for his boys and for Rachel of course so he could help her. Soon the doctor came in and looked at Rachel. “Now Mrs Hudson do you want an epidural?”
Seeing her husband decked out in scrubs was not a sight that she was accustomed to seeing, especially since those normally accompanied surgeries. “Is everything okay?” she quickly asked, looking from Finn to the nurse taking her stats. “Why is he dressed like that?” The woman went out to explain that it was just a precaution and recommended that she calm down for the babies. She took a few deep breaths - then inhaled sharply when another contraction hit. Once she was able to not think about pain, she nodded to his question. “Yeah. That would be good. The last thing we need is for my dads to call her and then she’ll get here upset, thinking we didn’t want her here … I don’t need extra dramatics right now.” His mother was the opposite of that, but she needed to take precautions. “My phone’s somewhere over there,” she said, pointing to the cabinet that held her bags and clothes. “Call her now, babe. Just in case the boys get here early … I want them all here.”
Finn had to be honest, he really didn’t like dressing in the scrubs it made him feel like something serious was going to happen, but he knew that he had to keep thinking positive not just for Rachel but himself. He then looks at the nurse as she explains to Rachel the reason why he was in it. He then made his way over and then held her hand as another contraction hit and he looks at her. “Just keep breathing babe, ” he says. He then looks at her knowing where she was coming from and went over to get her phone. “Okay, babe, ” he says as he knew his mom wouldn’t mind them not telling her but he just wanted to keep Rachel happy. He then looks at her. “I’ll be right back babe, just gonna is calling her outside, ” he says as he kisses her lips and then nervously walks outside and dials his mom’s number. When she answered he told her that Rachel was in labor and could have the babies any minute. His mom, of course was over joy and excited and told him that she and Burt was on their way. He couldn’t help but laugh at her reaction. After the phone call he walks inside and sits back down holding her hand. “They are on their way, she is so excited, ” he says before he looks at Rachel. “How are you feeling?”
With each step they took towards the building, Rachel’s nerves grew. Being in labor, having contraction after contraction, it all was like a big slap of reality. Soon their sons would be here, on the outside. After all the months of planning and buying and waiting, the moment was upon them. It just didn’t feel like. And maybe it wouldn’t until she had her boys in her arms … whenever that was. Finn, the surprisingly cool and collected one, managed to get a nurse’s attention and before long, she was being helped into a wheelchair and wheeled down a series of halls and an elevator. Once on the labor and delivery floor, the nurse stopped Finn before she took Rachel down another hall of rooms. “We’re going to need you to fill out a few forms for your wife," she told him as she got a clipboard and a pen. "Nothing too lengthy, just basic information, about the the pregnancy and labor. General stuff. And while you do that, we’ll help your wife get changed." While she didn’t want to part with Finn, she knew they had to just so he can make sure she was properly checked in. "I love you," she told him, "I’ll see you in a minute."
Finn looks at the nurse and bites his lip nodding as he really didn’t want to fill out the form. He just wanted to be with his wife and help her through this hard time. He then nods and then looks at her as he then started to fill out the form, but he honestly had too much on his mind worrying about his wife. He then watches Rachel. “Love you too babe, I’ll be right there soon, ” he winks at her and smiles nervously before he finished the form and then the nurse told him to get into some scrubs and he bites his lip. He didn’t know why, soon he was then led by the nurse to Rachel’s room where she was getting ready for to give birth. Finn walks inside the room and bites his lip nervously as he sees Rachel. “Hey!” he says, walking over and kisses her gently on the head. “I had to change into scrubs…do you want me to call my mom now?” he says, sitting down beside her bed holding her hand as he was really nervous.
Our boys will be here any minute!!
Im freaking out!
Looking between the hospital, the phone and back again, she contemplated her choice. She could call his mom now and get it over with or go into the hospital, get nice and settled and then call (or have him call) them. When she was hit with another contraction, her decision was made. “Inside,” she finally said, not wanting to wait another minute to be up in a room. As much as she wanted to be settled for her own comfort, she wanted to make sure their boys were fine as well. The last thing she needed was to find out that they were waiting too long and something had/would happen to them. She did her breathing techniques while he tried to find a parking space and just when she was about to say that he should just park anywhere he pulled into a spot. With some effort, she opened her door and managed to turn her body enough to get out of the car and onto her feet. It was crazy to think that the next time she’d be in a car, they’d (hopefully) have two boys with them. He was right; it would, in the end, all be worth it. “Come on,” she said as she closed her door. “Lets get this show on the road.”
He looks at her and then nods as he knew he had to a agree with her as her hormones would be going crazy and she is in pain. He didn’t want to annoy her. “Sounds like a plan babe.” he says as he held her hand the whole time as they finally got a spot and he looks at her as he tried his best to help her out. He then takes a deep breath himself as he was getting nervous now as he could see they were at the hospital any time now they would be having their boys. “Okay, babe I love you.. and we’re gonna do this!” he says happily with a smile and then held her hand as they slowly walked into the hospital. He then walked up to the receptionist and he bites his lip. “Em…My wife Rachel Hudson…is in labor with our twin boys…” he says nervously as he looks at her and she nods and quickly calls the doctor. "Okay, Mr Hudson, please follow me..and I’ll get your wife to a room and we will get the doctor, ” she says softly and he follows her with Rachel holding her hand the whole time.
It was really hard to be as excited as Finn when the contractions hurt and she couldn’t find a comfortable spot anywhere. This was worse than falling asleep every night. When he asked how she was feeling again, she squirmed in her seat and shrugged. “The same … it hurts.” There really was no other way to put it or even sugarcoat it. Her body was preparing to deliver not one but two babies and it seemed like it was doing it rather fast. “Let me have your phone. I can call our parents while you’re driving.” Rachel waited for him to hand it over before dialing her dad’s cell phone. Luckily, he wasn’t a heavy sleeper at all and he answered on the third ring. And, of course, he immidiately thought the worse when his overly pregnant daughter called at 11:30 at night. “I’m fine,” she insisted, though a sharp intake of breath proved otherwise. “Okay, I’m not totally fine. I’m going into labor.” Then she pulled the phone away from her ear because her dad was beginning to wake her daddy and were they always this loud? When the noise finally calmed, she cautiously brought the phone back to her ear. “Yes, Finn’s taking me to the hospital right now … No, his parents don’t know yet but I’ll call them … Okay. Okay, we’ll see you soon.” She hung up and turned to her husband. “Should I call your mom’s phone or Burt’s? Who’s more likely to wake up first?”
Finn bites his lip and felt helpless right now. He just wanted to do something anything to stop the pain, he hated to see her in pain. But he knew it will all be worth it. “I’m sorry babe…but it will be all worth it..hopefully in the next few hours we will be holding our beautiful new born baby boys” he says trying to stay positive like it said in the baby books he had been reading a lot recently when he was on lunch in work. He then handed her phone when she said she wanted to call their parents. He knew of course her dads were going to panic like his mom of course but thankfully she was a nurse she was was used to hospitals and was the perfect person in this situation. As he got closer to the hospital he heard her on the phone to her dads he then looks at her and thinks carefully. “I think my mom would wake up first, Burt is pretty lazy” He laughs nervously as he knew it wasn’t a time for jokes but he had to say that. He then saw the hospital lights. “Where finally here babe, wanna call my mom when we get inside and your settled?”
When he asked how far apart her contractions were, she shrugged. “I haven’t been timing them. I didn’t even know they were contractions until my water broke.” Rachel had thought they were Braxton Hicks or heartburn; she hadn’t thought that maybe they were, finally, the real deal. Or not finally since the babies needed a few more weeks. She was afraid that she was going into labor too soon and the babies would be born too premature. None of that truly mattered now, though. Whether she liked it or not, their boys were coming. With his help she was able to get off the toilet her feed padding on the towel that he had left to clean up the mess she had made. She nodded to his instructions, knowing that it did neither of them any good to panic or go crazy like she wanted to. “Right. Hospital.” If she wasn’t in labor right now, she would have thought his simulated breathing were funny but all she did was follow his lead. Together they changed her, her pajamas coming off in favor of a loose dress that would be coming back off once she was in the hospital and forced into those uncomfortable gowns. She managed to slip her swollen feet into some flip flops and grabbed their phones while he got her bag that had everything else they’d need for the next couple days. “You can call our parents once we’re at the hospital. I don’t want Daddy beating us and asking me at on of questions until I’m in a hospital bed.” She led the way out, slowly waddling to the front door. It was crazy to think that the next time she walked through the door, they’d (hopefully) have their sons with them.
Finn nods as he understands and bites his lip. “Okay em when the next one comes after that we will time and see how long the next one is after that one okay?” he says kissing her gently on the lips as he then watches her. When she was all cleaned up they made their way to the car before he nods when she told him to call their parents when they are in the hospital. “Okay babe will do.. I’ll call Kurt too, he told me to” he says nervously as he was really scared about what was going to happen. He just wanted their little boys to be here already. He then got in their car and he opens the door for her and lets her in slowly helping her of course, he then puts her bag in the back and then puts his seat belt on and helps her with hers. “Okay lets go have our boys!” he says with a little of excitement, 80 percent of him was scared, nervous and full of panic but 20 percent were full of excitement and happiness that he was going to be a father really soon and they would finally see their little boys. He knew as the night went on that percentage of panic and stuff would go down and he would be more happier once the babies were born and Rachel was safe. He began to drive quickly but carefully as they made their way to the hospital. “How you feeling now babe??”
"No, I don’t want ice cream.” As much as she knew hew as being helpful, she wasn’t in the mood or mindset for silly questions like food. She was more certain she was now, officially, in labor, looked like she had just peed herself and was still on the toilet. “Do you honestly think I missed?” she snapped before taking a few deep breaths. It wasn’t his fault that their sons had decided the middle of the night was the best time to start their journey into the world. When she felt calm enough, she gave him a look. “Sorry. I’ll save that for later when I’m almost ready for birth.” After another breath, she nodded. “My water broke and I think it’s a good time for us to get to the hospital.” In her mind, she had always planned for this to happen during the day and everything would be perfect and go smoothly. Obviously reality had other plans in store for her. “But first, can you help me up and maybe throw a towel on the floor? I can’t move.” She reached out her hands for him to help, wanting to get some different clothes on and to the hospital as soon as physically possible.
Finn bites his lip and knew by the way she was snapping at him the boys were on their way. He took a deep breath trying to calm himself down. He really was an idiot of course the babies were coming. “Babe its okay…look we need to get you to the hospital quickly okay? How long are your contractions apart?” he says softly as he comes over and held her hand trying not to panic but on the inside he was freaking out and trying to remember everything they had planned for this moment. He then started to clean the floor before he finally helped her up, he didn’t want her to fall on the big puddle of water. He then helped her into their room and picked out the clothes they had planned for her to wear. “Okay babe as soon as we get you dressed were going to the hospital and were going to have our boys….just stay calm and breath” he says nervously and starts to breath with her as he quickly tries to get her into her clothes but was obviously shaking from what was happening. He was freaking out and he was trying his best not to show it. After 5 minutes he finally got her dressed well good enough for the hospital. “Okay lets get your bag and lets go have our sons!” he says in a cheerful tone trying to stay positive.
